Kenya sends Somali refugees back home: UN Refugee Agency

NAIROBI, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- UN Refugee agency UNHCR said Wednesday that thousands of Somali refugees who fled fighting between the Ethiopia-backed transitional government and now- vanquished Islamists have been deported by Kenya.

UNHCR regional spokeswoman Millicent Mutuli said Kenyan authorities broke the international law by deporting more than 300 refugees who fled fighting across the border in Somalia.

"International law was broken when 340 (refugees), mostly women and children, were driven in trucks from a Kenyan border transit camp," Mutuli said.
