Tanzania on alert over Rift Valley Fever

DAR ES SALAAM, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Health and livestock authorities in northern Tanzania have been keeping close watch on the border with Kenya in the wake of a fresh outbreak there of Rift Valley Fever disease after a lull of nine years.

Local English broadsheet The Guardian on Monday reported that the Northern Zone Veterinary Investigation Center had enhanced its monitoring and had been maintaining tight restrictions along the Tanzania-Kenya border.

The newspaper quoted Adam Mbise, the acting chief of the center, as saying that round-the-clock surveillance had been on along the border.
