Nikkei index slips

TOKYO, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- The key Nikkei index of the Tokyo stock market slipped Tuesday. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 15.61 points, or 0.09 percent, to 17,408.57.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 0.43 point, or 0.02 percent, to 1,730. 76.

Nippon Steel was the most heavily traded issue by both value and volume, rising 29 yen to 695 yen.
