Insurers may be given more freedom to invest in Chinese stock markets

BEIJING, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Some restrictions on investments by insurers in China's equity markets may be scrapped, sources with industry regulators said on Thursday.

The insurance regulatory authorities are mulling over the issue.

Two bans on investment in stocks will probably be lifted. One is the rule that prevents any insurer buying stock that has risen by 100 percent or more in the past year. The other is that their stock investment may not exceed five percent of their assets.
