Vienna New Year's concert greets new EU members with Blue Danube

VIENNA, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Vienna Philharmonic successfully dedicated the famous traditional New Year's concert, conducted by renowned Indian conductor Maestro Zubin Mehta, to the world audience at the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein on Monday.

Bulgaria and Romania, formally joining the European Union (EU) on Monday, got a special welcome and greeting when Zubin Mehta dedicated the Blue Danube Waltz by Johann Strauss to them at the end of the concert.

Six melodies were performed for the first time in the New Year's concert on Monday and in line with the tradition, most of them were selected from the Strauss ...
