France launches national diploma in acupuncture

PARIS, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- France has decided to better recognize acupuncture by replacing an inter-university diploma in acupuncture with a national diploma, French Education Minister Gilles de Robien said on Wednesday.

"In France, like in many European countries, acupuncture remains a subject of great interest to the scientific community and the public at large," said the minister.

"However, this interest in the subject has given rise to archaic therapeutic practices which lack solid medical backing," he said, declaring that "the time had therefore come to accord traditional Chinese medicine more solid university recognition."
