Romania to keep military presence in Iraq: president

BUCHAREST, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Romanian President Traian Basescu indicated Thursday his country will keep its troops in Iraq, saying Romania must stick to its word, particularly as it needed U.S. help to join NATO.

Basescu made the statement at Bucharest's Henri Coanda International Airport as he returned from an official visit to Egypt. Journalists quizzed him about Romania's position following Britain's decision this week to pull its troops out of Iraq.
