Roundup: Guinean authorities, labor unions reach agreement to suspend general strike

ABIDJAN, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Guinean President Lansana Conte has agreed to appoint a consensual prime minister acceptable to the labor unions who in return agreed to suspend the ongoing general strike, according to reports reaching here on Monday.

The president agreed to appoint "a new prime minister by March 2, 2007 from a list of candidates" submitted by labor unions and the civil society, announced Ibrahima Fofana, the secretary general of the Labor Union of Guinean Workers (USTG), one of the two major labor unions organizing the general strike.
