Cyclone hits Madagascar's east coast, another wandering around

ANTANANARIVO, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- A mild tropical storm hit the east coast of Madagascar on Sunday evening though the center of the cyclone is still hundreds of kilometers away.

An engineer at the National Weather Forecast Department confirmed here on Monday that the cyclone, codenamed Gamede, destroyed the means of communications with its strong wind in Maroantsetra, a coastal town about 700 km northeast to the capital city of Antananarivo.

The center of the storm was still 400 km off the east coast by 9 a.m. local time (0600 GMT) on Sunday morning with a slow speed of only 6 kph towards Madagascar's east coast, ...
