Ugandan parliament demands gov't status report on forests

KAMPALA, March 30 (Xinhua) -- The Ugandan Parliament has given Minister for Water and Environment Maria Mutagamba an ultimatum of two weeks to produce before it a comprehensive report regarding the status of all forests in Uganda.

Alice Alaso, the Soroti Woman Member of Parliament was quoted by Daily Monitor on Friday as demanding to know when the government would come up with a statement on the degazzetement of Mabira forest and the status of other forests.

Okupa Elijah, another legislator from eastern Uganda urged the government to immediately take up the land it was given by one of the traditional leaders in the country instead ...
