Filipinos spend Holy Week holiday

MANILA, April 6 (Xinhua) -- The streets of Metro Manila are deserted and empty Friday when Filipinos are enjoying their Holy Week holiday, which will last until Monday.

Hundreds of thousands of people are gathering in their hometowns in the provinces after an annual exodus out of the city by bus and cars on Thursday.

All shopping malls, schools, government offices, stock exchange, banks, restaurants and other places of public activities have been closed for the holiday, the second biggest after Christmas. Most newspapers have no issue Friday.
