Roundup: Los Angeles considering ban on plastic bags

LOS ANGELES, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Los Angeles is studying a ban on petroleum-based, plastic shopping bags, city officials said on Wednesday.

San Francisco imposed a ban on plastic bags last month, prompting the LA City Board of Supervisors to agree to study taking the same move, said the officials.

Supervisors Yvonne Burke and Zev Yaroslavsky asked the Department of Public Works to determine the pros and cons of adopting a policy to ban petroleum-based plastic bags, and to assess how paper and plastic bags are recycled within the area.
