Roundup: Indonesia to greatly reduce air pollution in big cities

JAKARTA, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian State Minister for the Environment Rachmat Witoelar warned on Wednesday that the government may impose a ban on new cars, as part of a national program to start reducing air pollution in the country's ever- growing urban areas.

"If there is no progress in restoring air quality, we will ( stop car sales completely)," the minister said when explaining the new initiative which will at first include only 11 cities and municipalities that already have installed air monitoring devices.
