Roundup: African countries intensify safe male circumcision program

HARARE, May 8 (Xinhua) -- African countries are making steady progress towards mainstreaming issues of safe male circumcision into its national health policy and program, health officials said on Tuesday.

Officials attending an on-going meeting on the Eastern and Southern Africa Male Circumcision Consultation in Harare said the commitment by the region had helped prevent new HIV infections and reduce deaths to manageable levels.

Assistant dean at the University of Zambia Dr. Kasande Bowa said his country had set-up male circumcision sites countrywide to meet the high demand for the service.
