Article: Wheaton congregation celebrates new church, 4 years after arson

Name: St. Michael Church

Year founded: The Roman Catholic parish was founded in 1882. Its new church was dedicated last weekend, four years after the previous building was destroyed by fire. That structure dated to 1958. In all, the parish has had four churches since its founding.

Location: 111 N. West St., downtown Wheaton in DuPage

Size and character of congregation: About 2,700 families belong to St. Michael. The congregation is predominantly white and middle- class or upper-class. There are also some Indian and African- American parishioners.

Spiritual leader: The Rev. Don McLaughlin, pastor for nearly five years. McLaughlin, 54, describes his style as "collaborative."
