Tokyo shares finish higher

TOKYO, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares gained ground on Friday, with the key Nikkei index briefly up the 18,000 line for the first time in nearly three months.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 83.13 points, or 0.47 percent, to end the day at 17,958.88. It once rose to 18,017.73 during the day.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange added 12.20 points, or 0.69 percent, to 1,767. 88.
