Terrorist attacks declines in Russia last year

MOSCOW, June 1 (Xinhua) -- The terrorist attacks in Russia declined greatly last year compared to that in 2005, a senior anti- terrorist official said Friday.

"The number of terrorist attacks in Russia has dropped," deputy head of the National Anti-Terrorist Committee (NAC) Department Sergei Bezmin was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying.

In 2006, there were 162 terrorist attacks in the country, compared to 257 in 2005. The most dangerous regions in terms of the terrorist threat are Chechnya and Dagestan, but even there terrorist activities are on the decline, he said.
