Dutch murder rate down to 10-year low in 2006

BRUSSELS, June 14 (Xinhua) -- The murder rate in the Netherlands dropped to 1.0 per 100,000 people in 2006, the lowest level since 1996, the Dutch central statistics office (CBS) said Thursday.

In the country with a population of 16.3 million, 160 people fell victim to murder or manslaughter last year, the office said, adding that it was the third year in a row that the murder rate declined.
