Article: Local stations denounce NFL's camera ban

The news was slow in filtering out of the NFL owners meetings last month in Orlando, Fla., but as it makes the rounds of TV newsrooms around the country, it's registering with the force of a tsunami. Starting this season, no local stations will be allowed to have their cameras on the field. The ban is in effect before, during and after games, and it has left sports directors and cameramen amazed and angry.

In Pittsburgh, John Steigerwald of KDKA-TV told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: "If they don't see the difference between using network video and what we shoot from the sidelines, they're idiots. That's an insult to the intelligence of anyone who knows anything about television."
