Egypt bans all female circumcision

CAIRO, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Health Minister Hatem el- Gabali issued Thursday a decision banning all female circumcision, the Egyptian official MENA news agency reported.

The decision was taken in response to requests by some bodies and organizations to bar all female circumcision after a 11-year- old child named Bodour Ahmed Shaker died last week while undergoing the procedure in the southern province of Minya, said the report.

The minister said that the decision will be operational as of the day it is published in the Egyptian newspapers and will outlaw the practice entirely.
