Gabonese, U.S. armed forces launch joint maneuvers

LIBREVILLE, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Gabonese armed forces and their U.S. counterparts have officially launched medical-military maneuvers, according to the local press.

The official launch ceremony was held Thursday in the presence of Gabonese Prime Minister Jean Eyeghe Ndong, who represented President Omar Bongo Ondimba, supreme commander of all the armed forces of Gabon, at the function.

The aim of the military exercises, which are scheduled to end on July 13, is to prepare the civilian population, Gabonese soldiers as well as business owners to improve their response to emergency situations.
