Shell loses 14 billion dollars to Niger Delta crisis: company official

LAGOS, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Shell had lost 14 billion U.S. dollars to militant insurgency in the Niger Delta region, according to Basil Omiyi, the managing director of Shell PetroleumDevelopment Company of Nigeria (SPDC).

Omiyi made this disclosure in a paper he presented at a pre- conference workshop of the National Association of Petroleum Explorations (NAPE) in Lagos on Tuesday, saying that the amount was what could have accrued to the country as tax and royalty income since 2006 till date.
