South Korean ship hijacked by Somali pirates

NAIROBI, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Pirates have seized a South Koreanship off the coast of Somalia, the latest in a series of such attacks in the Horn of Africa nation, Kenya's maritime official said on Tuesday.

Andrew Mwangura, the program coordinator of the East Africa Seafarers Assistance Program (SAP) said the boat, which has 22 crew members, was hijacked on Monday night or early on Tuesday.

"The vessel was either hijacked on Monday night or today morning. We don't know whether the pirates hijacked the vessel after discharging cargo or not," Mwangura told Xinhua by telephone.
