U.S. "deeply disturbed" by Pakistan's political crisis

WASHINGTON, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- The United States criticized on Monday Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf for imposing a state of emergency, urging him to call elections in January and to quit his military post.

The United States is "deeply disturbed" by the crisis, calling for "a quick return" to democracy in Pakistan, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino told reporters.

The spokeswoman also confirmed that U.S. aid to Pakistan, a staunch war-on-terrorism ally, was under review.
