Tony Gwynn Jr. was in an upbeat mood Saturday regarding his ailing left hamstring, which he termed "significantly better" than the previous day.

Gwynn was still out of the lineup, as manager Ned Yost gave Gabe Gross a start in center field. But Gwynn was hopeful of returning to action soon.

"It's sore, but a lot less than it was yesterday," he said. "So that's encouraging. I'm a lot more optimistic today. I can actually walk without limping around. It's good right now."
