Well, this is my last column for The Herald. Lady Luck has turned
her attention in my direction and I have won the lottery. Well, to
be correct I have won the Spanish Lottery. A letter arrived at the
weekend informing me that I had picked up over 14 million euros from
the one ticket I bought in Barcelona. Strangely enough, I did go to
Barcelona last year and, due to a lot of local vino, I can't be
certain if I bought a ticket or not.
At first I was a bit suspicious - I had to send fifty quid to
register my claim - but it looked the real thing, and then I noticed
it was even addressed properly. El Gordo, the envelope said. My
Spanish is rusty but even I know that means 'the fat one'; it must ...
