Detroit Tigers left-hander Mike Maroth is scheduled to undergo
arthroscopic surgery today to remove bone chips from his left elbow.
The 28-year-old Maroth has been dealing with elbow problems since
April but hadn't missed a regular-season start until Tuesday, when
Roman Colon took his place in the Tigers' 11-6 loss to the New York
Yankees.
Maroth is 5-2 with a 3.56 ERA and 22 strikeouts in nine starts
this season, his fourth with the Tigers.
He felt recurring irritation in the elbow during his last start
May 25 at Kansas City. The problem prevented Maroth from fully
extending his arm, and he had one of the worst outings of his career,
allowing six runs and six hits in the first inning, ...
