U.S. supports Iraq's crackdown on militias
WASHINGTON, April 7 (Xinhua) -- The United States supports Iraqi
Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's decision to crack down on Shiite
militias, the White House said on Monday.
"That was a positive development," White House spokesman Tony
Fratto said, noting that many political parties in Iraq "backed the
prime minister's intention both in Basra and in the country overall
to go after militias, and to ensure that political parties that are
affiliated or backing militias are not eligible for election."
