Top U.S. commander in Iraq to call for pause in troop "drawdown"
WASHINGTON, April 7 (Xinhua) -- The top U.S. commander in Iraq
will probably call for suspending further U.S. troop withdrawals
from Iraq beyond the planned pullout of five combat brigades by the
end of July, U.S. newspapers predicted Monday.
General David Petraeus "will not commit to a timetable for troop
withdrawals beyond the summer," as he testifies before Congress on
Iraq progress on Tuesday with U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker,
the USA Today said.
The Washington Times noted Petraeus "is expected to call for
halting troop reductions that began in December for about six months
to assess the security situation."
