Article: Meters out, kiosk in for City Dock parking

For the revamped City Dock, parking meters are out and computerized "pay and display" machines are making a comeback.

Beginning next week, visitors to City Dock should be able to begin using the parking kiosks. The transition comes three years after an initial trial run in Annapolis.

The three terminals installed at City Dock accept cash, coins or credit cards. The terminal then dispenses a receipt that is placed on the dashboard of their vehicle, said Chuck Weikel, city parking coordinator.

The now-defunct city parking committee first performed a three- month trial run of the meters in the summer of 2005, getting them on loan from New Jersey manufacturer Parkeon. The ad hoc committee said ...
