A Photograph album showing a Hull trawler crew before they were
killed in the First World War has been unearthed in New Zealand.
Dr Robb Robinson, a city-based maritime historian, discovered the
album while carrying out research for a lecture.
The Columbia, which had been on anti-U-boat duties in the North
Sea, sank "within minutes" of being hit by a torpedo in May 1915.
Just one man, Thomas Gale, survived the incident, which happened
off the Belgian coast.
Before the vessel set sail, the crew's dog mysteriously went
missing.
Dr Robinson said: "While researching I made contact with a woman
in New Zealand who has unearthed an invaluable photograph album from
the Great War at Sea.
