A plymouth frigate has set sail for the Arabian Gulf to carry out
ongoing security patrols of Iraqi oil platforms.
Hms Chatham slipped out of Devonport naval base last week and
will be at sea for six-and-a-half months.
Sailors lined the decks for her departure and waved goodbye to
loved ones at Plymouth's Devil's Point.
Commanding Officer Commander Martin Connell said: "We are sailing
to conduct one of the most important missions the Royal Navy is
currently undertaking. Through our recent maintenance, trials and
training, we have ensured both the ship and my crew are ready to
undertake our tasking and we relish the challenge.
