The Cincinnati Reds opted not to play the percentages Saturday
night, and it enabled the Pirates to steal a 4-3 victory.
With the score tied at 3 in the sixth inning, Pirates rookie
Brian Bixler was at second base with two outs. Nate McLouth came to
bat against right-handed reliever Mike Lincoln.
McLouth, a lefty batter, is riding a career-best 11-game hitting
streak and began the night tied for third in the league with 10 RBI.
On deck was slumping Freddy Sanchez, who had just two hits in his
past 26 at-bats.
But instead of intentionally walking McLouth, Lincoln (0-1)
pitched to him. McLouth slapped a full-count pitch into left field
