Without wishing to malign Mr George Clooney, who seems a personable and intelligent chap, I must confess that I have begun to find the intensity of the female cult surrounding him faintly weird. He was in London last week for the premiere of his new film, and the newspapers were full of photographs of Clooney surrounded exclusively by well-known women, including Mariella Frostrup, Thandie Newton and Elle Macpherson.
