Harrington, starting the day on -2, a massive nine shots adrift
of overnight leader Trevor Immelman from South Africa, badly needed
early gains to fuel the self belief that he could climb the
mountain. The Dubliner got a boost with a solid 10-foot putt for par
on the first hole after his iron approach shot had rolled back off
the green. Harrington then found another gear, birdying No. 2 for
the second day running by sinking a solid putt. He then launched so
spectacular a drive down the third fairway that it flew to within 75
feet of the pin on the par four hole. An accurate chip up onto the
green and an eight-foot putt for birdie put him out to -4 for the
