Article: World oyster eating contest returns to the French Quarter

Bivalve speed-eaters from across the globe will descend on the French Market at today for the 2008 Acme World Oyster Eating Championship.

This marks the first time the event, which typically takes place during the annual French Quarter Festival, has transpired since Hurricane Katrina.

An all-star cast of competitive eaters will compete in the eight- minute contest. All eaters will try to beat the current record of 46 dozen oysters eaten as they vie for the lion's share of Acme's $1,750 prize.
