Genetics provides insight into iron deficiency

WASHINGTON, April 13 (Xinhua) -- The discovery of a gene for a rare form of inherited iron deficiency may provide clues to iron deficiency, according to a study published online by Nature Genetics on Sunday.

The discovery may help the general population with iron deficiency -- particularly iron deficiency that doesn't respond to iron supplements -- and suggests a new treatment approach, the journal said.
