THE discovery of 42-year-old Mark Speight's body behind
Paddington station was the tragic end to a set of events that would
have floored the most resilient of us. He was seriously depressed
following the death of his fiancee and if, as reported, he did take
his own life, then his demise was not that unusual.
Suicide is now the single biggest cause of death in British men
under 45 with around 30 men across the UK killing themselves every
week and many more making serious attempts. But could more have been
done to protect Mark? There are a number of different factors
thought to explain why men are at such high risk from suicide, but
pressure to fit the macho male stereotype and the methods ...
