Article: Coming clean over housework

Few things test the modern marriage as much as housework.

It wasn't much of an issue for us when my wife was at home with three children under five and I worked all hours to keep the money coming in. The housework just didn't get done.

But now we have more discretionary time and my wife has a part- time job, the issue is once again on the table.

This suggests some negotiation is taking place, but really it's just a question of me doing more around the house -- under supervision.

To be truthful, the issue has come up before. At Christmas, a brother-in-law inadvertently made me look bad by his devotion to his family and household duties.
