A standard gold wedding band last year had a $65 price tag at Old
Town Jewelers in Vinton. Now the price for the same ring is $135.
The escalating prices of gold and platinum in the past several
months have doubled and, in some cases, tripled the value of all
things bling.
Gold's ability to attract an ever-growing investment audience has
sent prices for this precious metal skyrocketing to record highs.
Investors increasingly are buying gold because it's viewed as a
stable hedge against inflation and fluctuations in a weak U.S.
dollar, according to the World Gold Council.
