A PLACE in the FTSE-100 is not what it used to be, with turmoil
in the financial markets knocking billions off the value of
Britain's largest companies.
The evidence for that will become apparent today.
Cobham, the aerospace technology company, will enter the blue-
chip index as part of the quarterly FTSE reshuffle, despite a market
capitalisation of just over GBP 2.3 billion.
Food ingredients group Tate & Lyle, best known for its
sweeteners, rejoins the index today, with only a late rally
yesterday of 11 per cent giving it a market cap of more than GBP
2.5bn.
At the last review in December, the threshold for entry was a
market cap of around GBP 3bn, the approximate benchmark in recent ...
