HOPES that Edinburgh would shrug off their traditional end-of- season malaise this year and give suffering supporters some Magners League fizz foundered miserably in what was probably their worst league performance of the season last night.

The hosts started and finished this match sluggishly, working hard to create fleeting moments of enterprise and allowing them to evaporate in seconds, and there was no real surprise by the time the final whistle blew that they ended point-less for the first time in the league this season. They deserved little more.
