Ated on Roy Calloway's broken right leg in 1958, he hoped that it
would not be long before he was fighting fit again.
But for the past 50 years he has been putting up with an almost
unbearable pain in his right leg which had never healed.
The former steel worker suffered two broken collar bones and
multiple fractures to his right leg after falling off his 350 Royal
Enfield as a fresh-faced 20-year-old.
He spent six months in hospital and two years on crutches as
surgeons tried to reset the leg fracture with a primitive system of
pins and pulleys.
But when his treatment ended Roy was still plagued by leg pain,
which he simply dismissed as a side-effect of his extensive surgery.
