Tom Purnell left his mark in London just like his Stroud and
District AC club-mate Dan Robinson.
The 14-year-old claimed his first major success of the winter,
producing a stunning sprint finish to win the Mini Marathon.
Purnell was in the race for 13 and 14-year-olds and up against
the outstanding Irish twins Patrick and Andrew Monaghan.
"I had never beaten them before," said Purnell. "At the start of
the three-mile race I sat in the pack and waited until we reached
the finishing straight on the Mall to put in my sprint.
"I was neck and neck with Andrew and we were both given the same
time (15 minutes, 38 seconds), but I was given victory."
