Cancer patients in East Yorkshire are to pioneer treatment that
could pinpoint tumours.
The first research of its kind in the world will look at the
effect hypnotherapy and relaxation have on people with lung cancer
undergoing radiotherapy.
Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust and the University of
Hull have secured pounds65,337 of funding from Dimbleby Cancer Care
for the study, called Hyprel.
The aim is to teach patients to breath more shallowly and
regularly to ensure radiation beams can more accurately pinpoint the
tumour, while staying away from the surrounding unaffected tissue.
It includes muscle exercises and visual relaxation techniques.
