Article: Deadly skin cancer soaring, dermatologists warn

This is shaping up as another record year for skin cancer.

There will be 62,190 new cases of melanoma skin cancer in 2006, a 4.3 percent increase over last year, the American Cancer Society estimates.

The American Academy of Dermatology says the melanoma rate "is rising at an alarming rate."

Americans have a 1-in-60 lifetime risk of developing melanoma, a 2,000 percent increase from 1930, the academy said.
