But what about the death penalty itself? The U.S. Supreme Court
unsurprisingly approved Kentucky's lethal injection method for
imposing the death penalty, opening the road for other states,
including Missouri, where the penalty has been on hold.
Now Gov. Matt Blunt and Attorney General Jay Nixon want to get
going again with executions of several men on death row in our
state.
If we are to have the death penalty at all, the very idea that
lethal injection constitutes cruel and unusual punishment never made
sense to me. Anesthetic drugs and their application procedures are
so advanced today it seems obvious a subject could be painlessly
rendered unconscious while additional life-ending drugs ...
