Article: NFU case for biofuels economical with truth ; I take great exception to the reports on "biofuels" in your Farming Section (WMN, April 16). Both NFU president Peter Kendall and communications director Anthony Gibson are doing their jobs in pushing the arable farmers' case for more money but are being economical with the truth and are totally disregarding developing world food shortages.

I take great exception to the reports on "biofuels" in your
Farming Section (WMN, April 16). Both NFU president Peter Kendall
and communications director Anthony Gibson are doing their jobs in
pushing the arable farmers' case for more money but are being
economical with the truth and are totally disregarding developing
world food shortages.
We currently grow 11 million tonnes of wheat and consume 10
million tonnes as food or feed for livestock. To meet the EU-
imposed target of ten per cent biofuel for our transport by 2020 we
will have to improve home-grown totals to 14 million tonnes and
still have to import 10 million tonnes or the equivalent in ready-
processed bioethanol, all of ...
