A dramatic rescue was under way last night after two climbers
fell 50 feet down a 150ft-high cliff edge on Dartmoor.
The men, who were attached to each other by a safety rope, were
only saved from tumbling all the way down the face of Dewerstone
Rock, near Yelverton, when they landed on a deep ledge.
Lynne Paramor, of South Western Ambulance Service Trust, said:
"They were very lucky. They fell 50 feet down the cliff edge but
they could have fallen the whole distance and they would have been
more seriously injured.
"They fell on to a ledge and on to some shrubs and bushes, which
appears to have broken their fall. However, the two men did sustain
injuries."
