Madison -- With deer numbers continuing to soar in Wisconsin, the
Natural Resources Board took steps Wednesday to cut the population
with a more aggressive 2008 hunting season.
The biggest change will be a return to a four-day gun season for
antlerless deer in October in large parts of the state.
The season will also include so-called Earn-a-Buck controls in
swaths of eastern and western Wisconsin. With Earn-a-Buck, hunters
have to kill an antlerless deer before killing a buck.
Despite protests from some hunters, especially bow hunters, and a
state bicycle group, the Department of Natural Resources recommended
that the seven-member board approve an October hunting season. The
